Consulting Advice for the Australian Government Building and Construction WHS Accreditation Scheme

Acumen provides consultancy services and site audits against the Australian Government Building and Construction WHS Accreditation Scheme criteria. We are able to assist companies through the whole Office of the Federal Safety Commission (OFSC) accreditation process including:
  • Full OFSC Accreditation Scheme support, including design and development of procedures, WHS Manuals and forms
  • Reviewing existing WHS Management Systems against FSC Management System, Scheme and Hazard Criteria
  • Modification of existing Work Health & Safety Systems to meet OFSC scheme criteria.
  • Implementation advice and assistance in order to achieve OFSC accreditation
  • Assistance with offshore organisations seeking entry into the Australian construction and civil markets
  • Assistance with completion of the OFSC (Federal Safety Commission) scheme application
  • Site audits against OFSC criteria
  • Attendance at OFSC accreditation or surveillance audits
  • Facilitating safety in design workshops
  • Assistance with closing out OFSC audit corrective actions

 

The Scheme applies to projects that are directly funded by the Australian Government with a value of $4 million or more or project that are indirectly funded by the commonwealth:

  • the value of the Australian Government contribution to the project is at least $6 million and represents at least 50 per cent of the total construction project value; or
  • the Australian Government contribution to a project is $10 million or more, irrespective of the proportion of Australian Government funding; and
  • the head contracts for building work are greater than $4 million

 

To become accredited, a company must meet the following Federal Safety Commission Scheme criteria.

  • Have a management system that addresses the FSC Audit Criteria
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to manage construction hazards and high risk activities.
  • Have conducted site audits against the FSC Management System Scheme and Hazard Criteria.
  • Meet the requirements of the OFSC criteria including :
    • demonstrated senior management commitment to WHS;
    • integration of safe design principles into the risk management process;
    • whole of project WHS consultation and communication;
    • demonstrated effective subcontractor WHS management;
    • whole of project performance measurement; and
    • WHS training and competency to deal with safety risks.
